If you are new here, Links I Love is my Friday wrap-up series. I am online and reading so much content so I wanted to use this to share with my friends without having to blow up their inboxes (Yes, this blog is that old.) Every Friday, that I can, I’ll try to share some things I’ve seen on the internet that are interesting (in my humble opinion).

♥ This weekend, I’m doing a Fall Collection giveaway on Instagram. You can enter to win a print and five cards up until midnight on 9/13/2020, so, good luck if you’re entering!

♥ In memory of Patriot Day, I’m recommending the following documentaries In the Shadow of the Towers: Stuyvesant High on 9/11 and What Happened on September 11 (which is free.) There are a lot of other 9/11 documentaries that I’ve watched over the past nineteen years but these two are quite recent and both offer perspectives that were poignant to my experience as someone who was in middle school at that time.

♥ I’m still in love with these small, insightful videos from Bonnie Tsang on her YouTube channel. They’re so soothing and she does an amazing job composing these shots.

♥ I spent way too long scrolling Elliot Ulm’s Instagram account with his witty quips of #LifeofaDesigner.

♥ This Coffee Things shirt from our local coffee shop, Qreate Coffee, is everything I’ve needed in my entire quarantine wardrobe.

♥ The ladies from The Product Boss are running their Rock Your Holiday Promotions digital course again soon. This course was super helpful for me to prep this place for the holidays so I cannot recommend it enough.

♥ I’m late to talk about it here but I adore this Tia Mowry x Etsy collaboration so, so much.

♥ I’ve been listening to More Love – Songs from Little Voice Season One by Sara Bareilles as much as possible to soothe me into the fall season. We’re having a lot of rainy days here so I’m missing the long afternoons in coffee shops.

Around the Studio

♥ I’ll be speaking at the WPMRR Virtual Summit on September 24, 2020. This two-day conference is put on by the cool people at WP Buffs and spoiler alert: tickets are free.

♥ I’m currently getting the 2020 Holiday Gift Guide ready to go. If you have small businesses you’re wanting to recommend, please comment below!

Yesterday we celebrated the 12 Days of Christmas with designer Hyemi Oh. Today, we’re celebrating with designer Kelly Brito from Pink + Lola. I was excited to share some of Kelly’s work since discovering her blog earlier this year. Kelly has an amazing WordPress theme and Blogger template shop and I wanted to incorporate her skills into today’s post. Kelly has been wonderful enough to design two gorgeous holiday-themed blog headers to get your blog ready for the holidays. It’s never too late to spruce up your blog’s look. Thank you so much Kelly for sharing these beautiful headers!

Also as a bonus holiday treat, my favorite holiday song is featured on Latrina’s Blogger Holiday Mix. If you’re intrigued to know which song I picked, be sure to check out the post and I have a listen. Just a hint, I’m a 90’s kid so my choice might be a little obvious. I hope you guys have a great Tuesday and be sure to check back tomorrow for another lovely holiday treat from one of my favorite NYC bloggers.

TGIF! This weekend is much needed. I’m dealing with a bit of a repetitive strain wrist injury which is quite unfortunate when you’re a designer. I hope to re-cooperate so I can finalize some of the design element work for Studio 404. In the meanwhile, there is a local blogger meetup that I’m hoping to attend which is quite exciting. I’m sure I’ll have plenty of links next week. I didn’t get to divulge into my feed as I would’ve liked but I found some really neat things to share with you this week.

Have you ever found something fun on a blog you’ve been following for a while? This week, I visited Art Social to comment on an article Erin wrote when I noticed she had a shop. (Probably bad reader practice. Sorry!) I found this awesome Blog Life tote just sitting in her shop and it looks awesome. Totally on my wish list!

There’s something about alphabet prints that always make me smile. Usually they’re intended from children’s rooms or nurseries but I can get away with having one in my office, right? Love this patterned alphabet print in a strong slab-serif by Almost Sunday Inc.

I’ve been a fan of  Studio222 Photography for quite some time. Green Wedding Shoes shared this beautiful proposal shoot by Becka and Nate Robinson. I love the soft colors. The pale blue dress looks divine on the beach.

As I’m working on an intensive design project, I’m finding lots of inspiration from well designed websites. I love the colors and grid used on the Blocklevel site.  The branding is consistent all throughout the web design which is something I’m hoping to accomplish with my new site.

I’ve been on quite a baking kick lately so the idea of Caramel Macchiato Frosting sounds amazing.  I can’t wait to try out this recipe on cupcakes this weekend!

I’m admiring the soft colors of this identity and web design work done by Rashi Birla of Bucket of Squash. Rashi’s work is always inspiring to me due to her clean lines and great type choices.

Hello! Lucky always offers great stationery sets. How awesome is this Los Angeles note card set? I’ve been really drawn to silhouettes of cities lately and I hope to share some of what I’ve found with you next week.

Fun headlines are pretty neat. I know some of my favorite bloggers have the most creative names for their posts. L of The Native New Yawker (love her!) shared this amazing Content Idea Generator on her blog this week. You just type in your subject and out pops a fun, funky title for your next idea.

There’s clearly never too much New York in one post right? I thought these illustrations of Jay-Z’s 99 problems were hilarious. This was one of my favorites as I can totally see Kanye ranting about the bread being late on his Twitter. I love when designers push the envelope and create projects that are out of the normal trends.

You know how much I love an easy DIY project. I’m adoring this honeycomb garland from Oh Happy Day. The colors used are fun and festive for summer get together.

Have a great weekend!

The weekend is finally here! I can’t believe all of the love I received on my birthday yesterday from friends and family. (I woke up to an onslaught of texts, missed calls) I was lucky to get some photos of myself to update here.  I almost never take photos of myself so it was good to change things up a bit. Let’s get started on this week’s post as there is plenty to talk about.

I don’t think you have to enjoy rap music to be inspired by the luxury rap type project by Luke Skimmer. Luke is posting a different hand-lettered rap lyric which must include mention of a luxury fashion brand. The project is pretty unique but I loved Luke’s take on Kanye West’s Stronger above. How inspiring!

The colors from the Moon Valley Organics packaging design is just what I needed during this rainy week.  The logo reminds me of brands from the 70’s with it’s use of illustrations and a terrific slab-serif.

I love the bright and open kitchen of Lindsey Cheney. While the kitchen space isn’t very large, compared with an open floor plan, it looks right at home. Lindsey has a great home filled with fun ideas and very kid-friendly for her daughters.

I would love to add the above font, VIP, to my collection. (I probably will, let’s be serious it’s only $13!) The combination of the script and the sans-serif put would be perfect for event invitations. Looking forward to using this in the future.

Joanna Waterfall shared her work on the branding and web design for WINK! Weddings. I loved seeing Joanna’s various logo mock-ups as compared to the final product. It was great to read about how easy it was to work with the client, which makes any project ten times easier.

Christina of Lovely Interiors shared her gorgeous DIY ombre nightstand for her guest bedroom.  This entire DIY cost her less than $50 and seemed to be a quick, easy project. I would love to work on nightstands for my bedroom and this has me inspired!

Above is just a small snipped of what was done for the Wax Jambu branding. The branding consists of various collage-type illustrations paired with a slight grunge effect. I really enjoyed how different this was from all of the branding projects I’ve seen lately.

The above is a spinach artichoke grilled cheese sandwich. I cannot wait to try this recipe out as it looks delicious and features all of my favorite foods.

House Industries shared the poster above that they worked on for John Mayer. I love the colors and the overlapping text which scream concert poster. It also encompasses the classic House Industries look which I can never get enough of.

The above Detroit Building Chart was designed by Erin Jang of Indigo Bunting. As we know how much I love illustrations of architecture, I couldn’t get enough of this chart. I would love to see this done for more large cities (Atlanta…) and perhaps available to purchase as a print.

Have a great weekend! I would love to make it to the beach myself but who knows what may happen.

This post doesn’t do Roger’s work justice, so be sure to visit his portfolio!

It’s the weekend and I think it calls for an illustration post. The following posters were designed by Timi Everent of Greece for a concert series at Splice Bar. Each poster has a specific Christmas theme. Timi’s designs display great geometrical structure along with wonderful color selections. I can’t help but to say those gingerbread men are too cute! I hope you enjoy the posters as much as I do.

View the entire poster series here. What are some of your favorite holiday concerts? I just recently attended the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert and fell in love.

Design

I’m really glad Caity chose this word. It’s one of the most important words in my life. I’ve been designing in one way or another for over ten years. I’ve been a designer since the age of nine. I’m constantly thinking of ways to better establish my career. Yes, career, not job. Design is my life. I breathe it, I wear it, I sleep in it. You may not know it or not, but you do as well. There’s some aspect of design in our daily lives, but more importantly, it’s my life. I’m in love with a designer. Someone who has the same passions as I do.  I love it. I could do an entire blog about my life and design, but I guess I’ll cut it short. Design is my life.

Religion

This is one I struggled with. Not physically, but in terms of discussing religion and my life on this blog. I rarely make this blog personal for the amount of readers I receive. I don’t know who is reading my blog, although I really shouldn’t care. Not that this has anything to do with religion! However, this comes at a perfect time. I have been following the beliefs of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for the past five years. On Saturday, I’ll finally be baptized into the church! I was raised Baptist (to an extent) however, I found myself filling void of my own personal beliefs.

I don’t discuss religion on Static-Romance because I don’t have time to argue with people. There’s three things a person can blog about that can cause backlash: race, religion, and politics. I try to avoid two of those, minus race because I will gladly blog about racial issues within ALL nationalities. However, I’ve become weary of arguing with people about religion before I even open my mouth. The daily judgment process I go through just because I state that I am a Christian is ridiculous and tiresome. I will never deny my faith. I will proudly proclaim wherever I may be (see my about me page). I do not hide it, but I simply will not go into great detail in blogging about it. I’m too busy to argue with people. I love everyone. I am not hateful or judgmental. I don’t know where people get these ideas of crazy Bible-thumping Christians; but seriously, some of us a liberal and open-minded to others. I love my religion and I enjoy going to church every week. This is also why you’ll never see me blog on a Saturday, unless I’ve incorrectly dated an auto-post.

Relationship

My relationship with David is crazy. This is probably the other side of my life, outside of design. We’ve been dating since October 6, 2005. We have our ups and downs. Most of our downs was due to our distance. We spent most of our relationship in a long-distance relationship. They say long-distance relationships don’t last outside of a year. Well, I guess we’re the exception. We have a tolerance for things though. My relationship evolves everyday into something different. I can’t explain it accurately, but we’re constantly changing. There’s been very few times in our relationship, when things were at a stand still. We’re constantly becoming something new; but I don’t mind at all.

Even when we were not dating or taking a break, we were still best friends. We talked for 12+ hours a day. We spend a sickening amount of time together. In the world’s eyes, we’re probably way too young to get married. In the world’s eyes, we’re probably a mess. They’re right. We are a mess. I guess that’s how we’re still in one piece. We both have our battle scars; but we’re in it for the long run.

Music

Music and I have an on and off relationship. We recently reconciled after a year of legal separation. I am very picky about the music I listen to. The older I get, the stranger my music seems to be. I have been a music addict for years. I would record music videos on VHS and play them back. I still have a few of those old tapes. The first CD I ever bought with my own money was Will Smith’s MIAMI. (LOL!) I try to keep and ear for different music, especially music from different cultures. Right now I am discovering many new artists. You should probably stalk me on Last.Fm to find out what I’m listening to.

Blog

I lost my blogging virginity in the Winter of 2004. Since then, I’ve owned/operated over ten types of blogs on various blogging platform. However, this site is my baby. It’s been on the back burner once or twice (our three times..) but I still love it. I tell everyone who wants to know about blogging, that this is my first baby. I named her, nourished her, dressed her, and shared her with the world. She’s growing up so fast. She’ll be three years-old before I know it. Blogging is just another way for be to express how I feel and to share what I love.  It’s an extension of my designing and my writing combined into one. It’s hard to describe blogging’s place in my life other than it’s become a necessity. It’s how I feed out my emotions in some aspects. I wouldn’t do without it.
