I’m so sorry I missed an article and the newsletter yesterday. Things have been quite hectic! I’m changing some of my priorities around as we work with some great clients so I might be slowing down here just a bit. Sorry about my comments and replies slowing down on your blogs or via social media. I want to be involved as much as possible and I’ll try to create some more time to do that in the best way possible.

Today’s blog is focused on comparing two really great designs. One is by the wonderful Kelsey of Pinegate Road and the other is by Jaime of Ketchup and Mustard, which I found on Jessie’s blog! I really love both which are print designs featuring two very different scenes. This trend is becoming ever popular among stationery. Let’s take a look!

The lovely Kelsey shared these scenic business cards she designed for her parent’s neighbor. The cards feature a great photograph of the owner’s farm while utilizing a strong typographic layout. I really like how she paired her typefaces and still brought focus to the important information.

This Vermont wedding invitation suite is a a lot more involved than Kelsey’s business cards. With so many diferent pieces to choose from, it’s hard not to love this design. Each piece seems to focus on a different element in a different scene which is great. I’ve gushed over how much I love Jaime’s work before and she did an amazing job with this suite.

I love the borders in both pieces and I’ve been playing with borders in more of my print work as well. These are both extremely inspiration and I’m so happy to share them with you.

It’s President’s Day which was a perfect day to post the year’s first This or That post. Both of these designs are using very graphic, black and white packaging. More graphic and bold packaging designs are popping up in contrast to the solid, minimal style that has been so popular for the past year. I’m excited to see where this trend goes and if any brands will be re-designing their packaging anytime soon.

The Uzuri Makeup classic packaging uses various elements in a standard black and white approach. The elements in each design allows for a different effect in each piece of the packaging. Not only are the patterns creating a unique design, but they are allowing for movement and texture to take place.

As a pastry and confectionery shop, Xoclad uses one black and white pattern in multiple angles to create a solidified branding design on its packaging.  Paired with the pastel pink and mint green, the pop of color allows for minimal focal point with the sans-serif logotype.

I’m leaning a bit towards Xoclad on this one.

Hello! I had a fantastic weekend. I helped make 93 dozen Christmas cookies a reality, met up with Melissa from this month’s Creative Couples feature, and finally put up our Christmas tree. Since I’m finally in a holiday decorating mood, this month’s This or That feature is showcasing two very beautifully styled monochrome rooms decorated for the holidays.

I’m not sure which I prefer, the white-themed interior posted in the IKEA Sweden blog or the black-themed interiors styled by Sophie Brown. I’m leaning towards the hallway by Sophie Brown as I’m trying to recreate either in my home. Both rooms are styled so beautifully and perfect for this season.

Thank you guys so much for all of your support on our Creative Couples feature yesterday. I really have a hard time putting myself out here in this space, especially with pictures but it was great to have someone else tag along for the ride. I’m not sure how other bloggers do it. You girls are BRAVE. I’m excited for today’s This or That because it’s featuring food and photography. Who doesn’t love this combination? I have seen these two projects floating around the web. The first is from the team over at Jimmy Grants who shared their Unwrapped series recently. Showcasing six items from the menu, the Jimmy Grants team shared the ingredients separately and beautifully. Many thanks to Amy from Oh My Design for sharing this last week!

The second is from Dennis Adelmann & Carolin Wanitzek who showcased the identity work for their new project Food Throttle. The goal of Food  Throttle is to help you choose special food for special needs. Heads up to NY Egotist for sharing this last week. You may have seen this floating around the Internet because it’s just that good!

Hopefully deconstructed food photography continues to trend.  It’s too hard for me to choose but I do like the colors in Food Throttle a bit more.

One is a gorgeous illustration featuring great pattern work by an amazing lady and the other is a fun lettering sketch by a very awesome lettering artist. Since I’ve officially moved into my office, I’ve been wanting to put more artwork of the areas where I’ve lived. While I’m still not in love with Florida, I have fallen in love with the people I’ve met. I have met some amazing, supportive people and it seems the interactions I’m having lately have been so inspiring. So I guess a piece of my heart has finally settled here and I might consider showcasing this transition through art. However, my heart will always be in Atlanta. I am a completely city girl and while I love my small town, I need to breathe.  I already have a Georgia print in my office by Katie Daisy but can’t a girl have more? I love these two prints featuring great calligraphy and gorgeous silhouettes but I’d hate to choose. Which is your favorite?
