If you are new here, Links I Love is my Friday wrap-up series. I am online and reading so much content so I wanted to use this to share with my friends without having to blow up their inboxes (Yes, this blog is that old.) Every Friday, that I can, I’ll try to share some things I’ve seen on the internet that are interesting (in my humble opinion).

♥ In memory of Patriot Day, I’m recommending the following documentaries In the Shadow of the Towers: Stuyvesant High on 9/11 and What Happened on September 11 (which is free.) There are a lot of other 9/11 documentaries that I’ve watched over the past nineteen years but these two are quite recent and both offer perspectives that were poignant to my experience as someone who was in middle school at that time.

♥ I’m still in love with these small, insightful videos from Bonnie Tsang on her YouTube channel. They’re so soothing and she does an amazing job composing these shots.

♥ I spent way too long scrolling Elliot Ulm’s Instagram account with his witty quips of #LifeofaDesigner.

♥ This Coffee Things shirt from our local coffee shop, Qreate Coffee, is everything I’ve needed in my entire quarantine wardrobe.

♥ The ladies from The Product Boss are running their Rock Your Holiday Promotions digital course again soon. This course was super helpful for me to prep this place for the holidays so I cannot recommend it enough.

♥ I’m late to talk about it here but I adore this Tia Mowry x Etsy collaboration so, so much.

♥ I’ve been listening to More Love – Songs from Little Voice Season One by Sara Bareilles as much as possible to soothe me into the fall season. We’re having a lot of rainy days here so I’m missing the long afternoons in coffee shops.

♥ I’ll be speaking at the WPMRR Virtual Summit on September 24, 2020. This two-day conference is put on by the cool people at WP Buffs and spoiler alert: tickets are free.

Because I’m still feeling awful and Latrina tagged me a week or so ago, I decided this was a perfect Friday post. Forgive me friends! I’ve been trying to read as many blogs and comment but it’s hard to do. No excuses in life but I’m trying! This week I got so many exciting emails in my inbox and I’m participating in so many fun things so I’m extremely grateful for that. I guess I can expand on the five thoughts above.

1. If all else fails, I think about going into fitness constantly! I was involved in volleyball, basketball, competition cheerleading, and track when I was younger so I became completely athletic for some odd reason. After I moved and got married, I couldn’t find any health outlets and I took up an extremely unhealthy lifestyle. Two years ago, with the aid of my best friend, we both embarked on a health journey and spent anywhere from 8-10 hours in the gym. It wouldn’t be anything for us to take three hour-long classes back to back. Now that I’m too busy, I miss spending hours on end working out in group fitness. So if this design thing fails, I’ll totally get certified in a Les Mills program or perhaps Zumba or Doonya or something.

2. When you live in a town that’s only 17 years old, you feel old. Anytime I see anything related to the founder’s day, I want to cry. It’s like finding out your baby cousin can legally drive or buy alcohol. The twenty-something struggle.

3. I wasn’t even a huge fan of Linkin Park when we decided to name Chester, the gecko. My uncle and grandfather were in the appliances business and one evening, as a joke, my uncle came home with a gecko some family didn’t want. Not willing to sell the poor thing, we decided to take Chester in (as far as my grandmother would let us). No one in my family enjoyed having him around, especially my aunt who is terrified of all reptiles. Chester lived a few years with us and we had a great time having a pet around. Also, my sister will be twenty in nine days. See #2 for how I feel about that.

4. SAT scores are worthless when you’re not in high school. I’ve never had below a 3.5 GPA and I scored really well on my SATs. Even though I was home-schooled, I attended a private school sophomore year and was second in my class by .02 points.  I ended sophomore year with a 3.97 and the other student, who later graduated valedictorian, ended with a 3.99. I was a super nerd, on track to be a neurologist, and somehow I ended up in a different state, degree-less, and contemplating fitness for a living. My mother probably cries at night. However, I love what I do and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

5. I really don’t like E.T. or robots in general. As a 90s kid, you are sort of forced into people trying to teach you that E.T. was loveable and adorable. It didn’t help that my mother insisted on milking her crying kid for all it worth (thanks mom). I STILL get teased about it and I thought my irrational fear was over until visiting a friend a year ago with an E.T. statue in her home. Not only was it new teasing ammo from my friends who had no clue but it made lunch very awkward for me. I would have been Elliot’s friend if it kept Steven Spielberg from making that movie. Don’t judge me!

With over 400 posts under my belt, it’s a little hard to reference back to every single thing I’ve blogged about. A lot of images have been broken over the years which means a lot of posts are sadly wasted. I’ve decided in honor of moving over to Studio 404 to post a few best-of roundups to get all of you need readers caught up on some of the inspiring things that have happened. I thought I could get through the entire site in one post but these are just posts up until the beginning of 2011. Yikes! I’ll be splitting this up in parts and posting throughout the last few weeks at this domain. TGIF! I’m not even sorry for the barrage of typography that’s coming your way. This week was extremely challenging but now that it’s Friday, I realized how much I accomplished. The site design for Studio-404 is completely finished and has been sent to development. I just finished a quick but fun project with Carmen of The Flair Exhcange, who I just met in the past few months through Sunshine Bloggers. We’re almost halfway complete with our latest client project which is a bit whimsical and definitely unique. I started my Creative Couples feature this week featuring Melissa & Nick. I have tons of other things knocked off my to-do list but it’s just funny how it all looks great today. If you would have asked me about my week on Wednesday, I don’t think I would have felt as confident. Anyway, enough of me and more of inspiration!

I am in love with this logo Meredith of Hazel Wonderland shared this week for Knit Collage. The colors are very vibrant which is perfect for these last few days of summer. The branding has so many fun floral elements which Meredith did a great job of putting together. I would definitely visit the blog to see more .

I’ve featured the work of Kristin Nohe here before but I couldn’t help but share this illustration she posted on her Tumblr blog this week. Waffle House is such an Atlanta staple and it’s pretty lame that it’s not as big of deal here in Florida. I mean, there is now a Waffle House at Turner Field. It’s serious business fellow Floridians!

Speaking of illustrators I’ve showcased here, Type Worship posted a fun interview with illustrator Mary Kate McDevitt.  I could spend all day reading about the lives of other creatives. I love hearing where they got started and what they enjoy working on. It’s a great read so I encourage you to check it out if you have the time.

Can I just move to the city already? I would love to spend a day in this loft space in Tribeca. Reading Laura’s blog always makes me wish I was in NYC and looking at amazing (expensive) homes in the city doesn’t help.

Typography details are my favorite part of wedding invitations. I would have never thought to pair Aphrodite Slim with Museo Slab but it works!  This designer couple had an eye for type and they knew exactly how to execute their ideas.

What’s not to love here? Type, stripes, and monochrome are all a great combination in my book. Shanghai designer Jiao Tong’s numerals look amazing. Also, how awesome is the ribbon effect? Love!

Jen of Honey Kennedy posted a great tribute showcasing the work of Ruth Asawa. Her wire sculptures are beyond amazing. It’s so great to share work by artists within other mediums from time to time.

I know you are probably wondering how this ended up in the list this week but it’s amazing for several reasons. I’ve been trying to showcase Root Photography on the blog since I saw their work about three years ago. I was working with an event company and Nathan and Jensey shot their wedding so I instantly fell in love with their work. Fast forward to today, the husband-and-wife team shoot here in Celebration all of the time but there’s never been a shot at Starbucks. It was pretty neat to see these stylish roommates choose to highlight my favorite place in town in their awesome shoot. You have to check out the rest of the pictures. I want to be friends with these two.

I was extremely inspired by this postcard by Meera Lee Patel featured on Oh So Beautiful Paper this week. Constellations and astronomy-themed stationery has been inspiring to me over the past few years and Meera is extremely talented.

This is only a small snapshot of what you get when you combine great lettering artists with Pixar quotes.  I’m not a big fan of Pixar but I do love great type.  So if you are of fan of both, you’ll enjoy looking through the Pixar Typography Book.
