♥ In memory of Patriot Day, I’m recommending the following documentaries In the Shadow of the Towers: Stuyvesant High on 9/11 and What Happened on September 11 (which is free.) There are a lot of other 9/11 documentaries that I’ve watched over the past nineteen years but these two are quite recent and both offer perspectives that were poignant to my experience as someone who was in middle school at that time.

♥ I’m still in love with these small, insightful videos from Bonnie Tsang on her YouTube channel. They’re so soothing and she does an amazing job composing these shots.

♥ I spent way too long scrolling Elliot Ulm’s Instagram account with his witty quips of #LifeofaDesigner.

♥ This Coffee Things shirt from our local coffee shop, Qreate Coffee, is everything I’ve needed in my entire quarantine wardrobe.

♥ The ladies from The Product Boss are running their Rock Your Holiday Promotions digital course again soon. This course was super helpful for me to prep this place for the holidays so I cannot recommend it enough.

♥ I’m late to talk about it here but I adore this Tia Mowry x Etsy collaboration so, so much.

♥ I’ve been listening to More Love – Songs from Little Voice Season One by Sara Bareilles as much as possible to soothe me into the fall season. We’re having a lot of rainy days here so I’m missing the long afternoons in coffee shops.

♥ Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had an opportunity to respond back to the targeted harassment and verbal abuse she received on camera from a colleague. The ten-minute video is powerful and she shares so many anecdotes about how harmful the behavior is and how widespread verbal abuse is towards women everywhere.

♥ The new Seattle Kraken branding was released this week and as any design item, has received mixed reviews. I like the colors. I’m not sure about the main icon still but the wordmark is actually pretty good. I like seeing other design systems in the wild so I’m not angry about it.

♥ If you love book cover design, this thread of people sharing their favorite beautiful covers on Twitter is worth checking out.

♥ I made these cinnamon rolls this week and I couldn’t recommend them enough.

♥ I also finished the Neil Patel E-commerce Unlocked course this week. As someone who is stepping their toes back into e-commerce personally, I am in the sponge stage. I’ve been testing what works. I’m writing notes on what to improve. It’s so important to stick to what you’re doing and do the best you can. I’m excited to see how the products continue to develop over the seasons and what else I can do with this space.

♥ The magical Michelle Chantelle Hopewell wrote an amazing list of things contributing to anti-blackness online. This amazing human being is doing so much great work with her platform and I couldn’t recommend following her enough.

♥ Speaking of uplifting Black creatives, Ade Hogue’s work for the 2020 Issue of Texas Heritage for Living Magazine is 10/10.

♥ I’m sharing here because this Design System Checklist will be a lifesaver in the future.

♥ Currently binging Indian Matchmaking and Down to Earth with Zac Efron. While I’m not in love with everything in the later docuseries, I will say it was easy to watch and informative on some subjects. Would recommend!

What a week! I haven’t blogged twice in a week in years. I’m also posting on Instagram several times. What is this? What has quarantine done to me? Folx, I’m exhausted. I haven’t been able to write the “What Not to Do When Launching an E-commerce Business” post but I am working on it.

♥ My big one this week is the Lesbians Who Tech Pride Summit (Not IRL). This whole summit has been phenomenal. I’ve always wanted to attend this amazing event and it has not disappointed. If we’re in the AC (after COVID-19) next year, I’ll do my best to attend. A lot of the keynote sessions with amazing humans like Angelica Ross, Elizabeth Warren, Stacey Abrams, Megan Rapinoe, and others are up on their Facebook page. I will say my favorite sessions have been the “smaller” break-out sessions via Zoom. Ariel Belgrave, the founder of Gym Hooky, led a fantastic workshop called, “The Importance of Self Care in the Age of Black Lives Matter: Taking Care of Your Mental, Physical, and Emotional Self.” Also, this amazing playlist has been the soundtrack to the event, and what better way to better yourself than with amazing tunes to accompany you?

♥ This article by Leigh Stein dismantling the myth of the Girlboss has been making the rounds online and for good reason. There needs to be a larger conversation happening about abuse at the hands of people perpetuating commercialized feminism for their personal gain and not for the betterment of their sisters.

♥ Ron Tinlsey wrote this powerful open letter to the white graphic design community. As someone who is “in” the design and tech community, I’ve been let down by the stances so many people who have positions of power have taken over the years. Currently, so many of those leaders are now adopting the voice of change and empowerment of Black people. I’m questioning a lot of voices and continuing to do my power to uplift Black creatives on the platforms I have.

♥ Speaking of uplifting Black creatives, how amazing is Sharee Miller’s Instagram account? She’s amazing. I’m in love with this piece.

♥ I will yell on the hill of Dana Tanamachi as much as I can for as long as I live. The MiiR x Tanamachi Drinkware & Coffee collection is all I want. Give me all of the things.

♥ I’m catching up on Second Life Podcast episodes and this episode with Justina Blakeney left me with plenty of notes.

♥ I’ve been watching Taste the Nation with Padma Laksmi and it’s so great. If you’re looking for something light, I highly recommend it.

Happy Friday! I’m so happy that I’m back in the loop (I’ve missed blogging) and enough that I can share ten things with you. It’s been a long eight months as a mum (apparently, that’s my new title from my child.) I have learned so much and can’t wait to continue to share and grow in this space.

01. I’m into the illustration and type on the Frontend in Wonderland website. These colors are in my fall line palette that I can’t wait to share with you in two weeks.

02. These Pantone smoothies are so inspiring! I love things organized neatly and compared with colors are fantastic.

03. This is beautiful. I can’t even write words for the packaging design of Only Good. The colors, type, and simplicity all makes everything come together.

04. These ampersands. Chris Spooner knows how to find his way to my type heart.

05. I’m always drawn to the design work of Shauna from Nubby Twiglet/We Are Branch because of her adoration for black and white. These invites for her wedding anniversary party have me inspired in more ways than one.

06. I’m into Intro Rust so much. I really love the textured option of most typefaces and this is no different.

07. I totally have fallen in love with Mattieologie for her blog, fashion, and overall spirit. This look from her blog has been a favorite and my inspiration for casual fall looks. I’ve been throwing things out of my closet (bye maternity clothes) so I’m looking for inspiration for the capsule closet.

08. I’ve been looking for a simple sans serif this year and Bambino New is it for me. I can’t wait to use it in an upcoming brochure design. Doesn’t it just scream annual review? I think so…

09. Eleni was speaking to me when she put together this collection of black wall fixtures. I’ve been re-arranging things in our condo and I need a wall fixture…don’t I?

10. I always heard how annoying it was for kids to grow out of clothes quickly. Well, I have a very petite infant who takes her time growing into the next size. That definitely won’t stop me from trying these DIY onesies. Now I can put my sewing machine to good usage.

TGIF! I’m excited to share my first roundup of the year. I’ve decided to round up the amount of links I can find. Some weeks it’s hard to find 10 different things, especially when my time is limited. This week I have eight very inspiring things!

I am in love with this urban yoga photography project. This yogi is so talented and the poses she chooses in her environment are so inspiring.

I love silly Valentine’s Day cards and these cards by punnypixels are perfect for my designer and photographer friends.

I LOVE this new script by Sudtipos, one of my favorite font foundries. The curves are phenomenal and I can’t wait to add it to my type collection.

I’m sort of obsessed with beignets right now and this recipe by Club Narwhal is easy and hopefully delicious.

Grace Bonney always comes forward with thought-provoking articles for the community and this week, her article on copying and crediting was much needed. This has always been a hot topic in the creative community, especially online, and I think that a lot of Grace’s thoughts were on point.

We think a lot of times that creating a website is hard work. While it is hard to take the first step, you have to consider the maintenance that goes into keep a website alive. I loved the tips offered in this article on skills you need to maintain your website.

I love how talented Mike Lemanski is. This illustration for Evernote is amazing!

Speaking of gorgeous scripts, Smoothly is simple and adorable. It has such a great flow between its characters which attracted me to this typeface.

TGIF! I’m so happy to be here sharing with you some of my favorite links from the past week(s). I really did try to get this post out last week but there just weren’t enough items to share so I combined some of last week’s picks with this week. We are well into fall and I’m 30 weeks pregnant today so time is winding down! I can’t wait to share with you some of the things I’m working on for the next few months. Until then, let’s get started!

The new packaging design for Table of Plenty is fall-appropriate and well composed. I love the various type choices which make for a great visual representation of what the product represents. Also, who doesn’t love watercolor and leaves?

I always find some inspiration from invitations and the above wedding invites are no exception. The amount of swirls in this invitation is swoon-worthy.

I absolutely adore this fall lettering by Karli Ingersoll who is always a favorite lettering artist of mine. It’s just so light and flowy. What’s not to love?

I was so happy to share the talents of My Dear Fellow Co on the blog earlier this year. Well I absolutely *need* this print in my living room like five weeks ago.

Cookie butters anyone? The ladies over at A Beautiful Mess shared some homemade cookie butter recipes featuring your favorite cookies. I can’t say that I won’t make these immediately but I do have free time this weekend. How long should a jar of sugar cookie butter last?

I’m designing labels for some thank you gifts for my baby shower so these labels came at the perfect time. I love the simplicity of the colors and type choices here. I’m definitely inspired!

I don’t even have words. I just need it.

My favorite local blogger, Melissa, of  Blush & Jelly shared how easy it is to make a tote bag on her blog. She’s been carrying the cutest and Melissa-appropriate tote bags lately which makes me wish I was nimble with my fingers!

This has been my favorite branding project showcased in the past few weeks. Star did an amazing job working with the Emily G branding. It’s classic but retro and has all the elements in a well-styled branding project.

I’m a mini-pumpkin type of girl but in the event I ever decide to take on a larger pumpkin craft project, this typography pumpkin would be my choice.

TGIF! I’m honestly happy to get this out today. I’m working on a new branding project so I’ll have a moodboard to share with you lovelies on Monday. On top of that, I’m finalizing the Studio 404 holiday line which will include some fun things! Let’s get started.

I am absolutely loving Selfie Script! Lian Types is always a favorite foundry of mine and I haven’t liked a script since True North’s script. Adding to my cart ASAP!

I’m adoring the work of Bethany Heck. She’s very clean and minimal which I have an issue with sometimes. The above invoice design is just a small example of her talents.

The cards over at Little Low Studio are absolutely adorable! I love the cute illustrations and bright colors. What’s not to love?

Since Angela released the Saffron Avenue shop, I’ve been eyeing this Like a Boss mug. I really shouldn’t buy any more mugs until I move into a bigger house but I feel like I need it.

The identity design of the People’s Church of Montreal by Graham Smith is gorgeous. I love working with bright colors in clean branding so this is right up my alley. All of the color options make me so happy!

Speaking of bright colors, this is part of the The Kitchen branding done by Moniker SF for Whole Foods. I loved this exploration of the type and layouts here, even in such a small snippet.

I love good honey packaging which is why the packaging for Good Mood Honey is awesome. It’s simple with cute phrases and keeping the product in mind.

Does the branding for Wilson Barbershop Shop need any explanation as to why it’s on this list? I didn’t think so!

I absolutely admire  Minna May. She’s totally amazing and these watercolor patterns need to be on notecards like yesterday.

I really saved my favorite for last. I have been so inspired by the work of James Graves with this new project I have. His style is right up the alley of what the client wants. While I’m not 100% talented like he is, I can take his work and stay inspired to do my best!
